NOUNS PART 7

At the end of the unit, you will be able to:

• identify countable and uncountable nouns
• use the correct articles, determiners, and quantifiers with countable/uncountable nouns.

We already know what countable and uncountable nouns are.

So let's do a quick recap of what we learned yesterday before doing written work.

Countable nouns are things that we can count. They can be singular or plural.

• one book → two books

Collective nouns such as team, herd, crowd are also countable nouns.

Countable nouns take the articles a, an, the and words such as many, a few, a large number of before them.

• a dog
• an umbrella
• the picture
• many potatoes
• a few girls
• a large number of companies

Uncountable nouns name things that cannot be counted. They are always singular and have no plural forms.

• tea
• soup
• juice
• cheese
• rice
• bread

Note: Both countable and uncountable nouns take some, a lot of, and any before them.

• some books, some sugar, a lot of students, a lot of money, any seat,  any sugar
