Welcome to a new day of learning !

Hope all of you are taking good care of yourself and your loved ones at home.👦👦👱

At the end of the unit, you will be able to:- 

• define and provide examples of nouns.
• sort nouns into categories.

Did you know that words  have jobs  just like we people do? Well  children, today I'm going to tell you about words whose job is to be  a noun. 

 Observe the image below carefully. 👇

Observe  the encircled pic. 1. It is an apple.   

So, the word, apple, tells me the name of this fruit which is usually red in colour!  

Now observe the encircled pic. 2 . It is a chair. 

So , the word, chair, tells me the name of this piece of furniture which we find in our homes , in school or in an office.

Hence, when a word tells us the name of something, that  word is a noun.

Now time to move ahead a bit! 

1st:-Everything that you see around you, you can name.  As for example, you can see your mum, dad, the computer, the cell phone, books, glasses, erasers , wall, lights  etc

Hence, nouns are   words   that name people , places, things  or ideas .

The word,  'swan' ,  is a noun  /  a naming word.  It's the name given to this pretty bird .

2nd :-  Nouns  can do a number of things in a sentence.  For example:-  A noun can tell us whom or what a sentence is about ( subject of a sentence). 

Mr. Singh teaches Sanskrit.     

                        In the above sentence, Mr. Singh is  a noun .  Here, the word, Mr. Singh ,performs the job of the  subject .

In a similar way, nouns have the ability to perform different functions/ jobs  in a sentence. They can be used as objects( direct / indirect), object complements and so on.  All of these you will learn as you grow older , in the  higher classes.
