VERBS PART 2

Good morning boys!

At the end of the lesson, you will be able to:

  • define and identify different types of verbs
  • demonstrate correct usage of verbs
  • identify and use doing, being and possessing verbs
Today, we will start our class by doing a quick recap:

A verb is used to say or assert something about a person or thing.

It says what a person or thing does, what a person or thing is, or what a person or thing has.
A verb denotes doing, being and possessing.

We learnt about two kinds of verbs in our previous class- action/doing verbs and being verbs.

Today we will learn about verbs of possession.

VERBS- to show belonging/possession

Look at these sentences:

1. The elephant has a trunk.
The word has shows what  belongs to the elephant.

2. They have a new car.
The word have shows what belongs to them.

Words like has, have and had that show belonging are also called verbs.

REMEMBER: A verb is used to say or assert something about a person or thing. It says what a person does,, what a person or thing is, or what a person or thing has.

💡💡Verb is the most important part of a sentence. We may even call it the heart 💗 of a sentence. We cannot form a sentence without a verb.
